Case Story on Child Rights

Strengthened Child Networks at Municipality Level

The SIDA-SANKALP Project, implemented by Everest Club in Dailekh, has significantly contributed to strengthening child rights governance and ensuring meaningful child participation. One of the key milestones achieved was the successful reformation of child networks in two municipalities— Narayan (25 members) and Aathabis (21 members).

Enhanced Child Representation in Decision-Making Bodies

A critical step towards child-friendly governance was enhancing child representation in decision-making bodies. As a result of the project’s interventions, 2 girls and 2 boys were nominated to the Local Child Rights Committees (LCRCs) in the two municipalities.

  • Narayan Municipality: Nishan Thapa & Bipana Thapa
  • Aathabis Municipality: Chandra Shahi & Dipak BK
Institutionalized Child-Led Governance Initiatives

A landmark achievement was the first-ever Local Child Rights Committee meeting in Narayan Municipality. This meeting provided an opportunity for children to directly engage with local authorities, express their concerns, and advocate for child-friendly policies.

Empowered Child Club Networks in Advocacy

A two-day training on child rights advocacy and campaigning benefited 45 children (25 girls and 20 boys). The training covered:

  • Child rights awareness
  • Advocacy strategies
  • Campaign planning
  • Effective communication skills
Developed Annual Child Protection & Advocacy Plans

The project facilitated the formulation of child protection and advocacy plans to ensure sustained child participation in governance. These plans serve as guiding frameworks for addressing child protection concerns.

“The SIDA-SANKALP Project has strengthened child rights governance and created an inclusive, child-friendly municipal structure. It empowers children to shape their own futures.”
